Basic design requirements for stationary lng storage tanks

By Manager
Date: Feb 14, 2020

Testing: Before the initial use, the lng storage tank should be tested to ensure that the engineering design and materials, manufacturing, assembly and testing meet the standards. The user shall be responsible for these tests. The use unit is allowed to commission any part of the work to inspectors employed by other units, supervision companies or scientific research institutions, public insurance or supervision companies. The inspector shall have the qualifications specified in the relevant tank specifications or standards and the information specified in this standard.

Lng storage tank basic design requirements
1. The parts in the lng storage tank that are often in contact with lng and all materials in contact with lng or cryogenic lng vapor [steam with temperature lower than -29 ° F (-20 ° F)] should be physically and chemically compatible with lng. Adapt and should be suitable for use at -168 ° C (-270 ° F).

2. The external surface of the lng cryogenic storage tank may accidentally come into contact with the generation temperature caused by leakage of LGN or cryogenic steam at the flange, valve, seal, or other non-welded head, so it should be suitable to operate at this temperature or should be protected from Affected by such exposure.

3. All piping systems that are part of the lng storage tank shall comply with the provisions of Chapter 6. These tank piping systems shall include all piping in the tank, insulated and vacuum spaces, and external pipelines attached to or connected to the tank until the first part of the pipeline is connected to ice. This requirement does not cover the entire inert gas replacement system located in an insulated space. In the case of ASME storage tanks, all piping systems of the storage tank components, including the piping between the inner and outer tanks, shall comply with ASEM Volume B of the Code for Boilers and Pressure Vessels, or ASEM B 31.3 Process Piping. Compliance with the standard shall be indicated or attached to Form U-I in Appendix W of the ASEM Code for Boilers and Pressure Vessels, "Pressure Vessel Manufacturer Data Report".
4. Two or more lng cryogenic storage tanks are arranged in a common protective dyke. The storage tank foundation should be able to withstand contact with lng, or be protected from contact with accumulated lng and endanger structural integrity.

5. All lng storage tanks should be designed for top and bottom filling, unless there are other effective measures to prevent sub-houses.
