Two measuring methods of oil tank level gauge
Date: Nov 05, 2020
1. Indirect measurement method
After the signal related to the liquid level is measured by the sensor element, the measured liquid level meter is obtained by the conversion of the electric quantity.
For example, the differential pressure level gauge used in a certain tank area of an oil depot measures the pressure difference generated by the liquid at different heights, and then uses a computer to obtain the level value through density conversion and temperature compensation. For another example, the light guide liquid level meter uses the photoelectric principle to read the liquid level code information from the information code belt connected to the float in the float tank, and then translates the liquid level value through the secondary meter. This kind of measurement method is relatively complicated, high cost, and large system error, but it can greatly reduce labor intensity, can effectively and timely avoid the occurrence of safety accidents such as tank overflow, and is easy to realize automatic management of oil tank farm.
2. Direct measurement
Manual measurement method
It uses metering tools to directly measure the liquid level without any intermediate conversion. For example, manual dipsticks used in petrochemical storage and transportation systems, float steel belt direct reading level gauges (such as reading the scale value of the light guide meter once), magnetic level gauges, magnetic pirated level gauges, and so on. This measurement method is intuitive, highly reliable, simple to use, and low in cost, but the human-made reading error is large. At present, in most petrochemical enterprises, manual gauge is still the main method for measuring and controlling liquid level, and it is often used as the main reference for calibrating other instruments. In fact, the liquid level of oil tanks in oil depots is not very important. What users actually need to understand is not the liquid level, but to understand the actual quantity of oil in the oil tank (that is, tonnage) by measuring the liquid level to prevent overflow. From this analysis, it is also a good choice to use the differential pressure method to measure the liquid level (actually in tons).
