LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) is a widely used fuel that can be above ground or buried, and although they both serve the same purpose, there are some differences between design and installation.
Above ground storage tanks are those that are installed above the horizontal ground, whereas buried storage tanks are those that are buried underground. Above ground storage tanks are more susceptible to wind, rain, earthquakes, lightning strikes and other factors. This can lead to damage or tipping over of above ground LPG tanks, which can pose a safety hazard.
In contrast, LPG underground storage tanks are safer because they are protected by the underground soil and are less susceptible to external factors. What’s more, with the rising cost of land, and in order to protect arable land and residential areas, underground LPG tanks save space and reduce safety distances from regulatory requirements.
