LCO2 is mainly used for the refrigeration of perishable foods (solid state), as a refrigerant (liquid state), as a solvent for the production of carbonated soft drinks (gaseous state) and for homogeneous reactions (supercritical). Low concentrations of carbon dioxide are nontoxic, while high concentrations can be toxic to animals.
