LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) is a mixture of propane and butane, usually with small amounts of propylene and butene. A strong odorant, ethanethiol, is added to LPG so that LPG leaks can be easily detected. Liquefied petroleum gas is produced when crude oil is refined, or the gas that evaporates from the process of oil or natural gas extraction. Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is often mistaken for propane. In fact, LPG is a mixture of oil and natural gas under appropriate pressure and exists in a liquid state at room temperature. In the United States and Canada, blends of the two substances are generally considered to consist primarily of propane, whereas in many European countries the propane content of LPG is 50% or less
